San Diego Unified Schools Announce Plan To Reopen In April

San Diego Unified School District has announced its plan to reopen classrooms and return to in-person learning within the next few months.

Due to the trend of lower COVID-19 case rates in San Diego County, students will return to classrooms the week of April 12.

"Our reopening plan will apply to all grade levels and take effect as soon as San Diego County drops back into the state’s Red Tier, teachers who wish to be vaccinated have had the opportunity to do so, and proper safety measures continue to be in place on every campus," reads a statement put out by the district.

The city has also offered to make emergency medical personnel available to help vaccinate educators. According to the County of San Diego, teacher vaccinations could begin as soon as Monday, March 1.

The district is also taking necessary measures to ensure that the return to schools is a safe one.

"School days will be modified to accommodate social-distancing and safety protocols, and students will continue with some online learning," they announced. "For families not comfortable sending their children back to campuses, a fully online option will continue to be available. All families will be asked to complete a survey designed to gauge their preferences for returning their students to in-person classroom instruction, and will begin receiving information from schools shortly."
