San Diego Teachers May Get To Bring Their Own Kids To Work In Classrooms

San Diego Unified School District teachers may be allowed to bring their own children to work with them in a new agreement with the teachers union and the district, according to Fox News.

The "Children in the Workplace Policy" was agreed upon between the district and the San Diego Education Association in mid-March. The agreements apply to the current 2020-2021 school year.

Under the tentative agreement, San Diego teachers can bring their own children to work with them if they are enrolled in a district school but don't have access to in-person learning and the site "can accommodate an age appropriate setting following health and safety guidelines."

The school board was scheduled to vote on the "Children in the Workplace Policy" and other agreements on Tuesday, April 6.

San Diego Unified students and staff just returned to in-person classes through a hybrid model on Monday, April 12.

Some parents say teachers wouldn't need to bring their school-age children to work with them if schools returned to full time in-person learning.

"This request further illustrates that kids need schools. For over a year many parents have had to make a choice between their career and their child’s education. It doesn’t have to be this way. The answer is simple. Get all students into the classroom full-time, 5 days a week, which is exactly what the science supports," San Diego parent Leslie Hofmeister told Fox News.
